GPcwd Newsletters and Updates
The December 2016 Newsletter of the Global Partnership on Children with Disabilities (GPcwd) has arrived! In this edition we would like to draw your attention to some major developments of the last quarter of 2016 as well as upcoming events in 2017.
We mark this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities in the wake of the adoption of the ambitious 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This global blueprint for action summons us to “leave no one behind.” Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
The year also marks the tenth anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
For the first 10 years of the convention, a lot has been achieved: 172 countries ratified the CRPD and are making the significant progress in the implementation - http://bit.ly/UN_crpd. There is also increased global commitment to the inclusion of persons with disabilities both as agents of change and beneficiaries in development through the inclusive 2013 Agenda.
As SDG 17 says, the 2013 Agenda “can only be realized with a strong commitment to global partnership and cooperation.” And we are grateful to all the members of the GPcwd for your continued work in making this world a better place for ALL CHILDREN AND YOUTH.
